Our President, Barack Obama asked the American people to get involved in the community by doing community service, he said "turn today's efforts into an ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of others within their communities, their cities, and their country."
What are your thoughts on this statement? Discuss ways you could enrich lives of others in our community, city, and/or country. Why would our Barack Obama ask this of people? Do you think you will take up the challenge?

I think that Obama’s Statement is true, because not only does doing community service help the community, but it helps the city, then the entire state will go through with it, then the entire country will be doing community service. That will then influence the world and then they will want to do community service. The only way it will work, though, is if that one town was able to do so much community service, that the news would come and broadcast it all over the city, and then the news paper will get the story, write it out and someone visiting that city from another city will read that story and convince there city to do it. It would have to be a huge chain reaction to work, but if it works, it would affect the world. Zachary Gore
ReplyDeleteI believe this statement is an attempt by President Obama to unify the people and to set a common goal for all of us. This is a goal that I believe will help lead us out of the current rescission we are in.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a very good way to help the country but i don't think much people would go for it but i think i am to busy but on the up side my robotics team did alot of comunity so that may help

I think that Barak Obama wants people to help out in the community to help unite people. To help out in my community I could help clean up a park, by cleaning up a park I will be helping to make are community a happier and healthier place.

I think that it is wonderfulto say but I want to see others do it. How many times do you hear someone say they will donate their pay check to charity or they will help with the food drive or what ever. Having these thoughts is great but one man cant change the world and if anyone else in this class is intrested in helping our community or our country or even our world respond to my comment because I want to follow up on our presidents words. - Tanner DuVall
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with President Obama. Obama wants us to stand together and help our fellow neighbor. I followed and supported him through out his whole campaign. At every speech he would say “Do what you can to help change America.” He wants us to help him with the change he wants to give America. I would be honored to help President Obama with his fight for change.

ReplyDeleteI think President Obama is right so people can get together and help each other. So the community is much safer. Hopefully everybody will help out.

I think that the president is correct. If everyone would help their communities then there would be fewer problems in the community. For example, if you take time to help the kids in your community that are having trouble keeping up in school, they will feel more involved in the class room, leading them to be successful. If you notice someone that is having trouble at home then take time out to talk to them. You could save their life or even someone else’s. Take time to help a person that you no or even someone that you don’t, and you, yourself will feel like a better person inside. Then when we are driving places, trash is usually everywhere; take time to clean it up and our nation would look like a better place. Not only are you helping your region, you are also helping this nation become what it used to be.

ReplyDeleteIt would be great if everyone helped out for their community. But to be honest, I probably won't be doing any community service, and I know there's a lot of people like me that wont.

I believe that President Obama's idea is good in some ways and also not so great in others. I think it's good in the sense that it will bring people together and get people who are out of a job at the moment to be able to go out and help the community in some way. The way I think that this idea isn't so good is that not everyone will join in to help out and some people just don't like being with other people so there would be a conflict between them. I think overall though this idea is good.

I think its a good thing that he wants us to take part in our community it'll spread around and make this country a better place for everyone, hopefully more and more people will actually take part in this. You could enrich the lives of others in our community by keeping it safe, clean.

President Obama is correct, community service brings different people together and makes them bond in a way that couldn’t be otherwise. Turning today's efforts into an ongoing commitment to enrich the lives of others within communities, cities, and countries is a very powerful and possible goal. I am involved in community service. You may think that community service is boring or dumb but it isn’t. You just have to be willing to look hard enough for a service that suits your interests.

I agree with this statement I think this is a good idea. I think it will enrich other people by helping them keep their community clean. I think Obama would ask people to do this so he can see them live in a nice and clean environment. I will probably do this in the summer when it is a nice day out and i have nothing to do.

ReplyDeleteThe point isn't to donate money, it's to donate time. Instead of giving their paycheck to a charity they may donate a Saturday afternoon to box food at the Cherry Street Mission or something. While this nation may be "suffering for funds" but most people think they have all the time in the world.
President Obama is correct. Though some may disagree with his views/thoughts on other topics, this is one thing that we, as a whole, can work on together. Everyone can help make the community better by simply cleaning up litter along the roadside, or volunteering time a various shelters around the area. With the way our economy is going, what better way to come together as a nation, then by volunteering a short amount of time to the community around us. Lately people have only been focused on their bank accounts and their jobs, while the community around them is falling apart. So together as a nation we need to get our minds off things and help the community.

ReplyDeletei think community service is great it makes a lot of people happy and i volunteer at the church ever week so that is helping my community out

Wow, many of you really put some thought into your responses. It's been my experience that when I give back by volunteering I'm the one who feels blessed by the experience. For example, my church needed more members in the choir. I can't read music and I don't have a good voice but I remembered being in a choir in grade school and I liked it. So I thought I'd give it a try . . .just to help out. It turns out the I was blessed many times over. I've made many new friends and really look forward to going to practice.
ReplyDeleteWe often make dinners and serve at St. Pauls Lutheran church downtown Toledo and the Aura House (home for women and families struggling to get off drugs). Talking with the people and seeing the faces of the children really touch my heart. Again, I found myself blessed by the experience.
Giving back to the community is a win-win for all. I encourage you to reach out to others. Mrs. Lang

ReplyDeleteYou apparently dont even have the time to read my whole blog because you missed the whole point. Re read it and then comment me back becasue as of now your response is null and void.
Hes correct on some things like some people could help more in the communities. itll make a big difference when everyone acts at once. but were all lazy and we dont want to do anything that doesnt involve our selves. we should look at whats happening in our country insted of trying to save african kids. helping the homeless here could do alot. like that bag lady on alexis rd. rofl she goes to churches and gets free food.
