Pirates are people who download digital files, such as music or movies, illegally from the internet, without paying. It is legal to download some music without paying. On Itunes they have songs that are free. Other music is illegal to download for free. With this new policy record companies make more money per song, and they will be able to keep up with rivals like Amazon.

ReplyDeleteThe term Pirate in this sense means someone who ileaglly aquires (a.k.a steals) music. If you download music for free it is most likely ileagal. If you acquire a free song that would have to either mean the artist gave it away for free or you stole it. With this new policy record companies will make more money per song. Yes and no because sometimes it is legal to download music without paying if you have permission, but it is not when you are doing it without being told you can. The advantage for recording companies with this new policy is that they’ll stop losing money and start making more.

Keep in mind . . . just because you are able to do something doesn't make it right. Artists who create music have a right to be paid - that is their business, how they pay their bills. Can you imagine working at a job and not receiving a paycheck at the end of the week? Think about that the next time you download music illegally.
